ISTA
is presenting two educational events in Tianjin
China this fall. A Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP)
Technician-level workshop will be held on October 11, and a 1-1/2 day
seminar, entitled "PreShipment Testing: Benefits, Technology and
Organization", will be held on October 12 & 13.
The
CPLP workshop on October 11 will cover basic laboratory
operations, procedures & protocols, and conduct of the essential
ISTA shock/drop/impact, vibration, compression, and atmospheric tests.
The class will consist of presentation and discussion of subject matter
in the morning and early afternoon, followed by a break and then administration
of the exam. Study materials will be provided beforehand to each attendee.
To become CPLP-certified, an applicant must pass the exam and also have
a minimum of 6 months employment in the industry, or a packaging or
related engineering degree. Successful applicants will receive a one-year
limited individual or associate membership in ISTA.
Note:
all presentations and materials are in English. English proficiency
is therefore required for successful participation in the Workshop.

The seminar "Pre-Shipment Testing: Benefits, Technology,
and Organization" on October 12 & 13 has as its
goals to develop the technology of transport packaging in China, to
exchange views on technical issues, and to discuss transport packaging
organizations in China (ISTA-China and the Transportation Committee
of China Packaging Federation, TCCPF). The main topics of the conference
will be:

categories and elements
- Laboratory

- International
packaging research and future trends
- Future
programs and services of the TCCPF

Edward Church - Executive Director of ISTA, Mr. Li Hua - Chairman of
TCCPF, Mr. William Kipp - Associate Executive Director of ISTA, and
Ms. Meredith Dougherty - ISTA Director of Member Services, will be the
principal speakers.

Registration
fee for the CPLP workshop is 2000 yuan, including study
materials, certificate and lapel pin for successful applicants, and
recognition in ISTA publications and on the website. Board and lodging
at the events hotel is an additional 380 yuan.
Registration fee for the Seminar
is 1600 yuan, which includes conference materials, board and lodging
(four meals and two nights stay in a standard double-room in the events
hotel). If other arrangements for a room are needed, the charges will
be re-estimated.
