A first-ever ISTA educational event in China, the "China Symposium"
was held April 7-9 in Chengdu. About 130 people from large Chinese manufacturers,
Chinese enterprises dealing with transit packaging, and Chinese national
organizations in the transit packaging field attended. Organized by
ISTA and our local partner, IVY
Business Management Company, in cooperation with China
Packaging Technology Association (CPTA) and China
Packaging Research & Test Center (CPRTC), the Symposium consisted
of a technical conference, table-top exhibits, and a CPLP Workshop.
Many
thanks to the sponsors, listed on the right, whose support made this
event possible.

Chengdu was a very hospitable venue: the Vice-Mayor
opened the Symposium with a welcoming address, and the City also provided
a tour of their High-Tech District and another official greeting during
the Symposium banquet. The event was held at the Chengdu International
Conference Centre, which is a first-class facility with a beautiful
and well-equipped conference area, luxurious hotel rooms, and a variety
of outstanding restaurants. Symposium management saw to it that all
attendees were well taken care of.

The table-top exhibits were well attended during breaks and special
exhibition times. Exhibitors were Sealed Air Corporation, Bureau Veritas,
FedEx, L.A.B. Equipment, Lansmont Corporation, SGS U.S. Testing, MSL
Express, and Pira International.
A Technician-level Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP)
Workshop was also presented in conjunction with the Symposium. This
occurred in a smaller meeting room at the Conference Center, and was
similar in format to those held at Dimensions and elsewhere. Eleven
new CPLP Technicians were certified; Click

all CPLP recipients .
Overall the Symposium was an outstanding success, and there is great
interest in holding another one next year. Several Chinese packaging
organizations, as well as a number of companies and individuals have
expressed a willingness to cooperate, support, and participate. As plans
develop, look for further information on the ISTA
website.
