Welcome on Proposed Change to Procedure 3A
As reported
in last
month’s iNews, a proposed change is being considered to
ISTA 3A, the simulation test for parcel delivery system shipment.
The deadline for public comments is March 16.
The change is to potentially increase correlation between lab test
results and actual field performance for elongated and flat packages.
A vote of the Technical Series group is underway, but review and
comments by the ISTA membership and general public are also welcome
and will be considered.

ISTA
Participates in Wal-Mart Sustainable Packaging Exposition
March 12
& 13, ISTA exhibited at the “Sustainable
Packaging Exposition” in Rogers, AR. The purpose was to show
Wal-Mart’s merchants and their manufacturers how ISTA can
help achieve Environmental Sustainability Goals.

Our message
was “The Just Right Package; Only when validated
with the Just Right Test”. The point is that transport
packaging must still perform its function, regardless of changes
to meet sustainability or other objectives. And ISTA tests are the
best way to validate that the required performance has been achieved.
Booth visitors were interested in the concept, the tests, and in
how and where the testing could be performed.
The Exposition also afforded ISTA staff the opportunity to further
relationships with the packaging people at Wal-Mart.

Correction
to Procedure 7D in the ISTA 2007 Resource Book
In
the 2007 Resource Book, the table at the bottom of page 6 in ISTA
Procedure 7D is incorrect. Online, download, and current printed
versions have been corrected, but if you’re working from the
Resource Book, please take note.
The entire table at the bottom of page 6 entitled
“Cyclic Test Profiles:
For ambient conditions at both the shipping and the receiving locations
that are not the same for winter
and summer transport conditions for international shipments
from the United States.
“72 hour international
expedited airfreight transport:”
is in error. It should be as follows:
This correction makes the table the same as it was in the 2006 Resource
Book. ISTA members can go to the Member
Login page of the ISTA website, choose Procedure Search,
enter 7D, and download a complete and correct version.
Non-members with a Resource Book have been notified. Please contact
Meredith
Dougherty if you have any questions.
