Additional Workshop and Training Session at the Forum:
ISTA’s Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP) Workshop
Become an ISTA Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional while attending the Forum. Take advantage of this special instructional workshop and walk away with CPLP status under one travel expense. This is the same program that is available on-line or in printed form, but will be presented "live" at the Forum by CPLP Professional Larry Dull. An applicant may take the Technician course, the Technologist course or both. The fee is $695 for each course, or $1250 for one person taking both. The fee includes registration, materials, continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, and CPLP certification for successful applicants. The exams will be given Monday morning. ISTA’s Certified Thermal Professional (CTP) Level II Training Session
Become an ISTA Certified Thermal Professional (CTP) Level II while attending the Forum! The training session will be offered on Monday and the fee to participate in this session is $1295. The fee includes registration, materials, continental breakfast, lunch and breaks. You must complete and pass the CTP Level I exam prior to attending the CTP Level II Training Session. 2011 Technical and Editorial Changes to ISTA Procedures and Projects

ISTA has made technical and editorial changes to several ISTA Procedures and Projects for 2011. The changes are included in the current versions; Members can LOGIN to the ISTA Member Center to download the 2011 versions now. Non-members can purchase the new versions through the ISTA E-Market.

 

 

Based on the changes listed below, the current version dates for ISTA Procedures and Projects are:
2001: 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1G, 1H
2005: 1E
2006: 2D, 2E
2007: 7D
2008: 3A, 3F, 7A, 7B, 7C
2009: 3E, 4AB
2010: 2F, Project 6-SAMSCLUB
2011: 2A, 2B, 2C, 3B, 3H, 3K

Changes made for 2011 include:
Project 3J will NOT BE PUBLISHED IN 2011. 6-SAMSCLUB is now the appropriate procedure for Sam’s Club suppliers. See the September 2010 i-News for further details on 6-SAMSCLUB testing: http://www.ista.org/pages/inews/iNewsSeptember2010Web.php. Project 3J will be revised and made into a general club store distribution test, with a re-release in late 2011 or early 2012.

Guide 5B will NO LONGER PUBLISHED. Refer to ISTA 7E and Standard 20 for the testing of insulated shipping containers

2011 will be the LAST YEAR of publication for Procedure 7D. Refer to ISTA 7E for the testing of insulated shipping containers

Project 3K is ISTA’s new project for Fast Moving Consumer Goods in the European Retail Supply Chain. CLICK HERE to see the Overview. Members can LOGIN to the ISTA Member Center to download the full project.

Procedures 2A, 2B: a technical change was made to the formula used to determine the S value for compression testing.

Procedures 2C, 3H: a technical change was made to the Air Ride vibration spectrum, allowing more labs the ability to do the testing.

Procedure 2F: a correction was made to directions in Test Block 6 and the formula for Large/Heavy packaged-products was corrected.

Project 3B:
• A change was made to the concentrated impact equipment used, making it similar to the equipment used in ASTM D6344.
• The Fork Truck Handling Course was revised in an effort to loosen restrictions, making the course easier to create
• 3B now allows for no vibration top-load of packaged-products over 72 in tall (1.8 m)
• 3B now includes a maximum top load value
• The Before You Begin Vibration section was revised for a clearer description of the top load apparatus Clarification

Procedures 3E, 3H: the Before You Begin Compression section was revised for clarification when using the Apply & Release method

Procedure 3H: the Before You Begin Compression Testing re-written for easier interpretation of the requirements.

Procedures 1C, 1D, 2A, 2B, 2C, 3E, 3F, 3H: the Compression testing equipment requirements changed to now allow fixed or floating platens

The 6-Series description was revised to allow for additional uses of the 6-Series

The Guidelines for Selecting and Using ISTA Procedures and Projects has been updated to reflect changes made to the procedure line-up; also added 2 new sections on using “engineering judgments” and the applicability of recommendations or certification from other industry organizations.

More about a Certified Thermal Professional (CTP) Level II - A CTP Level II individual has a comprehensive working knowledge of all of the documents contained in Standard 20, and is capable of running a lab performing the tests specified by Standard 20. CTP II personnel understand the entire process from design to final certification of an ISC. They are capable of creating compliant, accurate and properly attested documentary packages. Level II Certification is acquired by a two step process. First, a qualification test is required and secondly, participation in an onsite training session. At the end of the training session, a performance evaluation will be made (format at the discretion of the auditor presenting the session).

The CTP Level II Training Sessions will be presented by Jim Cox.
Jim's Bio: After receiving a PhD in Biology from Stanford University in 1971, Jim pursued a career as a professor and researcher at University of California at Santa Barbara, University of Massachusetts, Stanford Research Institute and Duke University. He left the academic world to found a temperature monitoring company, Cox Technologies, which was sold several years ago. Since then, he has been very active as a consultant to firms requiring innovative solutions in cold chain distribution of food perishables and pharmaceutical products. Jim is a technical expert in RFID temperature monitoring and cold chain package testing and strategies. He is associated with the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) and the PCCIG (Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Interest Group) of the PDA. He serves as a Certified Trainer and Auditor for ISTA Thermal Lab Certification.
