Join Us in Greensboro and Become a CPLP this Summer!
Register Today for the July Workshop!

ISTA Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP) Technician and Technologist sessions will be offered on Wednesday, July 22nd and the CPLP exam will be held on Thursday, July 23rd. Thursday will also include the added value of a hands-on lab demo at the Syngenta Crop Protection Lab. This workshop will be held at Syngenta Crop Protection, Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina and will be conducted by Larry Dull of Packaging Technology Associates, Inc. who is a CPLP-Professional.

While the typical approach to CPLP certification is through a self-paced study program, either on-line or with printed materials, in-person workshops remain a preferred format for many people. The CPLP program encourages and recognizes development and excellence in packaging laboratory professionals. CPLP certification is particularly valuable for enhancing the credibility of people involved with ISTA testing and ISTA certified laboratory operations.

Workshop Schedule:
On Wednesday, July 22nd the Technician course will be given from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and the Technologist course will be given from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Lunch and breaks will be provided on Wednesday. The hands-on lab demo will be held Thursday, July 23rd at 8:00 am. The exams will follow the lab demo with the workshop ending at 12:00 noon on Thursday. Applicants will receive study materials in advance of the Workshops. Note: Only ISTA Members may take the CPLP exams and receive CPLP status.

Registration Fee:
Registration is $695.00 per session, or $1250.00 for one person taking both levels. Click Here to go to the registration page.

You are responsible for your own travel and lodging arrangements. A special rate of $89.00 per night plus tax (including breakfast buffet) has been arranged at the Clarion Hotel in Greensboro. ISTA Certified Labs: Add 3B and 6-FEDEX to your Procedure Capabilities
ISTA is asking all labs that wish to be listed as capable of testing to ISTA Project 3B and the 6-FEDEX procedures to complete this easy webform: 3B and 6-FEDEX PROCEDURE CAPABILITIES

ISTA Project 3B was released in May 2009 and is a general simulation project for the less-than-truckload environment. Click here to read more about the release of 3B in the May 2009 ista views.

Procedures 6-FEDEX-A (under 150 pounds) and 6-FEDEX-B (over 150 pounds) were approved in October 2007. These are FedEx’s testing requirements and are maintained by FedEx. ISTA labs can submit testing done to these procedures for ISTA approval or certification; ISTA Shippers who have the testing done can apply the ISTA Certification Mark on the tested packaged-product.

Requests for 3B and/or 6-FEDEX capability will be reviewed and approved based on a lab’s equipment capabilities. Please contact Meredith Dougherty if you have any questions.

ISTA Test Procedures: Changes to Fixed Displacement Vibration Table in ISTA Procedures
ISTA was contacted recently by a member with a question regarding the fixed displacement instructions in Procedure 1A. In the most recently printed version, after performing the first portion of the test and after rotating the test specimen, the user is instructed to start again at the same frequency and increase the frequency as necessary. There is no instruction to decrease the frequency if required.

After discussion at the April 2009 meeting, the ISTA Technical Council agreed that the proper approach for the second portion of the test should be to repeat the startup steps used for the first portion, which is to begin at a low frequency and increase the frequency until the shim can be properly inserted.

This change has been made to the following ISTA Procedures, which are now available for download to all ISTA members through the ISTA Member Center:

Procedures: 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 2A, 2B, 2D, 2E, 2F

ISTA Members Asked for Input on ISTA Benefits
We are looking to improve and enhance the member benefits and services provided to our members. To do so, it is vital that we understand the way they view existing ISTA benefits, as well as what additional services we can offer to enhance the value of ISTA membership.

We recently sent an email to over 1600 ISTA member representatives with an invitation to participate in a comprehensive member survey. The survey asks for input on current ISTA programs, ISTA testing procedures, the website, the value of membership and what members would like to see in the future as a benefit or value.

Everyone who completes the survey and submits their name will be entered into a drawing to win US$100!

We’ve asked all member representatives who received the survey invitation to submit their input by July 2, 2009. If you did not receive the invitation but would like to participate, please send an email request to Meredith Dougherty.

New Membership Certificate Design
We recently updated the ISTA membership certificates to reflect a more contemporary appearance and to complement the design changes we have already implemented in our website, digital publications and membership collateral.

We’d like to offer our members the opportunity to replace their existing membership certificate with the new design. At this time, we are offering only a pdf format. The certificate size is 8 ½ x 11.

To request a pdf of your new certificate, login to the Member Center, choose "Request an ISTA Member Certificate" at the bottom of the welcome page and then proceed with the simple instructions. We’ll then email a pdf of your new certificate to your attention.

Pictured below is a sample of the new certificate. There are three versions of the certificate for the various membership types.

Company, Shipper, Supplier and Carrier Member Certificate:

Certified Laboratory Member Certificate:
