 | Vibration Time vs. Distance Traveled (updated 2008) | Download |
 | Description: The question is often asked - how many hours equals how many miles? But there are numerous kinds of vibration tests, and numerous kinds of transport - so first we need to be much more specific. What type of test are we trying to relate to what type of transport? Even with proper definitions, the answer still isn't easy. This paper examines several existing recommendations, discusses the carious factors, explores different approaches involving frequency-domai Modified: 10 Dec 2008 03:08 PM Total Downloads: 1575 |

 | Effects of High Altitude on Package Integrity (2002) | Download |
 | Description: This study investigated the effect of high altitude shipments (feeder aircraft and truck shipments over mountain passes) on package integrity. Since 2000, the FAA has documented an increase of package failures to hazarouds materials in air shipments. This study, funded by FAA and DOT, presents some of the findings of the effects of low pressure, vibration and temperature on package performance. | ISTA Temperature Project - Data Summary (2002) | Download |
 | Description: In the late summer of 2001, ISTA undertook a research project to monitor temperatures and relative humidity in an in-service, interstate Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) environment. Project parameters were selected to look for extreme high temperatures. The project used electronic data loggers to record events. High temperatures above 140-degrees F (60-degrees Celsius) were recorded, however the exposure time for lading in the trailers was small at the high temperatures. The data suggests that the Modified: 20 Oct 2008 10:47 AM Total Downloads: 1158 |

 | Pallets 101: Industry Overview and Wood, Plastic, Paper and Metal Options (2004) | Download |
 | Description: Pallet users face an increasing number of material and design options. Learn about the latest innovations in solid wood, plastic, paper and metal pallets, and how you can use pallets to reduce costs in your operations. | Reducing Damage in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods Supply Chain (2004) | Download |
 | Description: Examining the results of a UK study in to the causes of damage in the FMCG supply chain. The paper also discusses the potential profit improvement potential of addressing the issue and the current barriers to progress. (This paper originally presented at Dimensions.04 by Greg Wood, then of Pira International and currently with STFI-Packforsk UK Ltd.) Modified: 20 Oct 2008 10:48 AM Total Downloads: 2040 |

 | Update on Dynamic Compression Measurement and Testing (2003) | Download |
 | Description: Dynamic compression occurs in transport due to vehicle vibration. Often designers only consider static compression (warehouse stacking), ignoring the effect of dynamic compression forces that cause higher stresses and damages to products and packages. This presentation will share some advances in field measurement and laboratory simulation of dynamic compression. The results show that packaging design may be improved to achieve a total reduction cost. This paper originally presented at Dimen Modified: 20 Oct 2008 10:48 AM Total Downloads: 1491 |

 | Case Study: New Package Qualification? Use ISTA Testing (2003) | Download |
 | Description: Case History: New packaging could provide more visual "pop" in retail display - at reduced cost. Before implementation could start, however, delivered quality had to be assured . ISTA procedures were selected to test the new packaging. The "Just Right" ISTA random vibration test profile proved the new packaging would be equal to the task. | Heavy Packages in the Small Parcel System (2001) | Download |
 | Description: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of "flowable" products on corrugated board box performance in the single-parcel shipping environment. It has been well documented in previous studies the presence of drops and impacts in the single parcel environment. Failure of a package system containing "flowable" products can result in serious down-times since the contents tend to cause jams and stops to automated conveying and sorting equipment. | Inflatable Packaging Systems Under High Altitude Conditions (1999) | Download |
 | Description: Inflatable packaging systems are finding their way into the main stream of packaging as more and more companies are looking for efficient, effective and environmentally friendly cushioning and dunnage alternatives. Using positive air pressure, inflatable packaging systems secure products in place while providing an air barrier of protection. | Express Shipping Drop / Impact Study in Central & Eastern Europe (2007) | Download |
 | Description: As part of SCA's global cooperation with Hewlett Packard, a project was undertaken to measure the drops and impacts occurring during express shipments in Central and Eastern Europe. This was a continuation of the HP project for Western Europe which was reported at Dimensions.06, but in a geographical area which to our knowledge has never been quantified in this way. ISTA participated by providing data reduction and analysis. This presentation will discuss the project methodology, data, and usef Modified: 28 Oct 2008 10:03 AM Total Downloads: 1330 |

 | Clamp Truck Simulation in the Laboratory Environment (2005) | Download |
 | Description: As the use of clamp trucks for handling packaged products increases, so to does the need for laboratory simulation of the damage potential encountered. ASTM specifies the only current procedure for clamp truck simulation, and it requires use of an actual clamp truck. This presentation discusses the construction of an apparatus to reproduce clamp truck forces in a laboratory and a comparison between actual and laboratory damage potential. | Packaging for the Less-than-Truckload Environment (2006) | Download |
 | Description: The National Motor Freight Classification contains a wide range of packaging definitions and specifications vital to the packaging and less-than-truckload industries. This presentation will discuss the review of Rules 180 and 181 -the LTL simulated package performance procedures - as well as changes to the packaging guidelines that will affect both industries.
